Bomb's Freaky Sweet Top 10 Teen Titans Episodes

Posted by BombsAhoy - March 6th, 2023

I recently re-watched all of Teen Titans! All five seasons come included with Amazon Prime, so if you got that shit, you've got Teen Titans. This show is very near and dear to my heart, and I put it up there with the greats, tied with Avatar: The Last Airbender and Ed, Edd, n' Eddy as my favorite cartoon of all time. So, I wanted to make a list of my top ten episodes!

(This list is not made in any particular order in regards to quality or favoritism.)

1) Mad Mod

The Titans are trapped in a Willy Wonka-esque funhouse full of traps and hypnotic television screens, and the showrunner is a crazy old Brit playing at being the Wizard of Oz. The episode also features a goofy ass Scooby-Doo chase sequence, which rules.

2) Revved Up

Like the Mad Mod episode, this episode is not afraid to be silly as fuck. The Titans must go against the Ding Dong Daddy (I'm not kidding) in a race to win back a brief case the aforementioned patriarch has stolen. High speed hi-jinks ensue.

3) Only Human

An episode revolving around the theme of Mind Over Matter. When Cyborg is forced to fight the robot warrior Atlus to save his friends, he must go beyond his mechanical limits to win! The scene that plays out in the episode's climax is something that still impacts the same way now as it did when I first watched this show back in elementary school. Inspiring!

4) Date with Destiny

An evil mothman (I'm not kidding) holds the city hostage. To buy time while the other Titans track down the lunatic's location, Robin must...Take his daughter on a date. The best part about this episode is just how unabashedly jealous Starfire gets in regards to the situation. Her expressions in this episode are all their own masterworks.

5) X

A suit Robin originally used to disguise himself to infiltrate Slade's operations has been snatched by an unknown thief. Now, someone else is taking this suped up suit for a joyride. Red X's design is simple and edgy, but I love it. His theme is amazing as well, especially in the first fight scene. The thing is REALLY like about Red X though is the seemingly limitless arsenal of gadgets he has AND he can teleport. This dude fucks.

6) For Real

Control Freak returns for the third time to test the Teen Titans. Except, they're not there. They're off fighting the Brotherhood of Evil, while the Titans East fill in for them. Control Freak is initially disappointed, but gains inspiration when someone in an online chat room mentions these new "Titans" need to be tested.

7) Hide and Seek

Raven has to baby sit a bunch of kids. She is not ready.

8) Lightspeed

I put this episode in the same category as "Mad Mod," and "Revved Up" in the sense that it is just good fun. Kid Flash gives the Hive Five a hard time and has to play keep away with the Brotherhood of Evil's top assassin. Jinx is also there, which is great.

9) Sisters

Blackfire is introduced in this episode.

10) Things Change

Through one way or another, a former member of the team who was believed to be gone forever, has returned. Beast Boy is adamant on making them return, but the old comrade denies ever knowing him or the Teen Titans. I remember watching this episode believing there'd be some kind of twist, that there would be more to come, that the former Titan would come back, but instead the show just...ended. That was it. At the time, this episode must've really felt like a slap in face, so many people must've felt so confused or just disrespected with a lack of answers. Now, as a grown man who's rewatched this show in its entirety, I've really come to respect this episode. It looked everybody dead in the face with such maturity and said "Things change. Show's over."

When Teen Titans GO! first came out, a lot of people lamented what seemed to be the final passing of Teen Titans. Like the final nail had been put in the coffin. We would never get the answers we wanted. In the end, though, I firmly believe it's better that Teen Titans ended when it did. It ended while it was still good. The same cannot be said for so many other shows.
