Just a few days ago I reached my latest milestone of 400 followers:

iu_308668_7280812.webp

Compared to some users here on this site, this is a very small amount, but I keep thinking to myself just how much 400 people would be if I had every single person standing in front of me, or how big a room would need to be just to fit 400 people in it. With this in mind, 400 followers is really no number to feel down about.

Some of you may not believe it, but back when I had just 100 followers, I very much so considered having this account deleted. Discouraged by my initially slow progress, and believing that no considerable amount of people would ever care about my work, I thought about just throwing all the art and followers I had accrued down the drain. Prior to this, I actually did have an account right here on Newgrounds, in which I had gained 75 followers, and DID have said account deleted out of the belief that my work was worthless, that it did not even deserve to exist in the public eye. I then made this account, and spent months getting back all those followers I had trashed.

Some of you might say, "Bombs, you shouldn't rely on social media to validate your artwork or yourself," and normally I would agree. However, you have to know, I've been drawing since I was 12, and now as a man of 25 years of age, my art making ability is the only real skill I've nurtured over the past 13 years. It's the only thing I really have to my name, and so to have people comment on my work, or to see the same people favorite my stuff time and time again is an assertion that all the time and frustration, all the hours I've spent alone in my room working to make my art better, really has meant something. With this in mind, I've also gained the confidence to finally start working out the ideas I've had for webcomics for some time now (something you can look forward to).

So, I want to thank all the people who've followed me up until now (and who will hopefully continue to do so far into the future). I give immense thanks to the Newgrounds staff who have frontpaged all my work, especially the pieces I made leading up to Pico Day, as that exposure netted me a huge boost in followers in a very short amount of time. Lastly, thank you to all the other prominent Newgrounds artists who have taken the time to click that little follow button.iu_308669_7280812.webp

Hello, and welcome to Day 6 of what I’m dubbing Bomb’s Freaky Sweet Artist Appreciation Week, where I take an artist and one of their OC’s and make a cool little news posts here on Newgrounds, giving them a little showcase. This is 6 of 7 posts I'm planning to make for this week, with a final piece being posted on Pico Day.

Today's artist is @hcnone!

HC is an epic artist and if you don't agree then clearly you don't own an air fryer :P The best thing about HC is the kind of pixelated art he makes:iu_291546_7280812.pngiu_291548_7280812.png

Pixelated art like this is really cool to see because a lot of pixel art you see online is typically just sprites/sprite animations, but HC does full on illustrations in this style. They remind me of the old still-shot cutscenes you'd see on the SNES, and I always imagine there being a little text box at the bottom of each of his illustrations showing what the characters are saying/thinking.

One of my favorite stylistic signatures of HC's stuff is his tendency to make the pupils of his characters a lighter color than the irises:

iu_291547_7280812.pngiu_291549_7280812.pngiu_291550_7280812.png

It's simple, but striking and helps add a familiar characteristic to all the stuff he does. Like, you see it and say, "Oh HC drew dis."

His primary content at the moment revolves around Endless Monday, an office slice of life/sitcom where all kind of office hijinks occur. It primarily revolves around the blue-haired beauty know as Skye. Her primary foil (it seems) is the red-haired witch, Hana (see cool gif below).

iu_291552_7280812.gif

GIFs like this also imply our boy has some animation know-how. Maybe we can expect a few animated shorts sometime in the future, hmmmmm? One can only freaking hope, but if it did happen...well it would just be pretty epic.

So as most people do, I decided to draw Skye:iu_291551_7280812.webp

To have a character be almost entirely blue, but contrast it all with red eyes is so simple, but fuck-damn if it doesn't look nice. Character designs don't have to be complex to be good people! Hell, making them simpler will make them more receptible if anything.

tanks 4 reeding. look for final post tomorrow ;^ )

Hello, and welcome to Day 5 of what I’m dubbing Bomb’s Freaky Sweet Artist Appreciation Week, where I take an artist and one of their OC’s and make a cool little news posts here on Newgrounds, giving them a little showcase. This is 5 of 7 posts I'm planning to make for this week, with a final piece being posted on Pico Day.

Today's artist is @cashumeru!

When talking about Cashumeru, what needs immediate attention is Cashu’s ability to draw cute and cool footwear:

iu_290740_7280812.webp

This is a phenomenon that I’ve dubbed the “Cashu Drip,” and you better respect the drip, asshole. In fact, when browsing through Cashu’s gallery for a refresher course, I noticed that Cash draws feet especially well, although I’m not going to post of collage of feet here, because I know how some of you sickos can be:iu_290739_7280812.png

You’ll just have to browse through his gallery yourself to see what I mean. Now, what I will talk about is Cashu’s education. You guys may not know this, but Cashu graduated with a PhD from the School of Drawing Cute Girls and Hot Babes. Here are some of the doctor’s most impressive studies regarding this very important topic:iu_290741_7280812.webp

iu_290742_7280812.webp

iu_290743_7280812.webp

(Character by @DieMango)

These studies have culminated into one singular creation:iu_290744_7280812.webp

The ultimate lifeform...Bird. Yes, her name is just “Bird.” She doesn’t look like a bird? Ummmmmm, can you not see the feathers on her head?iu_290745_7280812.webp

Bird is probably one of Cashu’s most interesting characters. Maybe not visually, but conceptually. At first glance the detailed articulation in her figure and joints and the fact she can detach her head, may lead one to believe she’s some kind of robot. But I have secret (not really), insider info (not really), that reveals Bird is actually an organic creature!!!!iu_290746_7280812.webp

She can also lay eggs. Here is a highly compressed JPEG photo I took proving this fucking disturbing fact:

iu_290747_7280812.png

It’s kind of hot though...

I’ve alerted the FBI, the CIA, and my parents about this, but nothing is being done. My obsession with this eldritch manifestation of chaos has left me destitute. I don’t eat. I don’t sleep. I do nothing but think of Bird.

So for today’s piece I decided to do a pic of Bird and her older, droopy eyed sister, Nid:iu_290748_7280812.png

Can’t wait to see what kind of cool characters Cashu grows in a jar next!

Hello, and welcome to Day 4 of what I’m dubbing Bomb’s Freaky Sweet Artist Appreciation Week, where I take an artist and one of their OC’s and make a cool little news posts here on Newgrounds, giving them a little showcase. This is 4 of 7 posts I'm planning to make for this week, with a final piece being posted on Pico Day.

Today's artist is @JoelG!

Mr. G. is probably one of the most well-known artists on Newgrounds at the moment and his most recent series, ENA, has gone nothing short of viral. ENA has amassed tens of thousands of views here on Newgrounds and MILLIONS on YouTube. Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive in regards to doing a post about Mr. G. because I figured most people would already know who he is and what he’s done, but with all the young blood Friday Night Funkin’ has trafficked into the site, I concluded that it couldn’t hurt to signal boost his work, even if it’s just a little bit. Besides, this series is in regards to MY favorite artists at the moment, so...IGETTOCHOOSE.

Anyways, you might have noticed I called ENA his “most recent” series. That’s because prior to ENA Mr. G. had actually put out content for two other series. One being “2 Ants, 1 President,” and the other being “HANDS UP!” “2 Ants, 1 President” is about, well, 2 ants named Derek and Melvin, and they’re going to assassinate the president of their country. There’s also an experimental worker robot in a wig and a skirt named Hally, whose presence nearly ends up causing a robot worker rebellion at the factory where she’s employed. The three characters eventually meet up and leave on an adventure.

iu_289969_7280812.webp

(Screenshot from "2 Ants, 1 President- Episode 3)

“HANDS UP!” is a little easier to explain. It stars two female police officers, who both appear to be some kind of space aliens. There’s a green one named Margo, and an orange one named Ula. The main focus of the show seems to revolve around their contrasting personalities and character dynamics, as Margo is somewhat aloof with a laid back nature, and Ula is uptight and very by-the-books. Together, they fight crime!

iu_289970_7280812.webp

(Screenshot from "HANDS UP- Elevator")

The amazing thing about all three of these series is how well produced each of them are. Each show has its own kind of art direction, with talented voice actors in the speaking roles, and it’s all accompanied by unique soundtracks. One has to wonder where Mr. G. finds the time to poop and breathe oxygen. If anyone has ever doubted themselves in pursuing the production of independently animated series, show them JoelG.

Now, I’ve told you what the other two shows are about, but to say what ENA is about is a little more complicated. The show's basic plot, so far, has not been as easy to grasp as his previous shows, and perhaps its obtuse nature is part of what has led to its success, as discussion around the bizzaro world of ENA has helped generate additional buzz for the series. Just type in “ENA theory” on YouTube and you’ll see what I mean.

Aside from its mysterious plot, one thing that draws people into ENA is it’s marvelous aesthetic, especially in regards to the landscapes and rooms presented in ENA’s most recent installment “Temptation Stairway.” The landscapes are wide and expansive in many parts, but sparsely populated and dotted with bizarre objects, figures, and architecture giving each scene feelings of desolation, wonder, and awe:

iu_289971_7280812.webp

iu_289972_7280812.webpiu_289973_7280812.webp

Many of the entities ENA comes across in these realms are anything aside from what we could regard as our own kind of “normal.” Even ENA acknowledges this in “Extinction Party”:

iu_289974_7280812.webp

“What are YOOOUU even saying? Can’t you say anything that makes sense? JEEEEZ! LOUISE! Everything here is soooo weird.”

With all the talking I’m doing about ENA, I’m sure you already know what character I decided to draw for today’s post:

iu_289976_7280812.webp

(Note: The man in the back is David Byrne, the singer for the band Talking Heads. Here he dances for a scene in the music video for one of the band's most famous songs, "Once In A Liftime," a video which ENA makes several direct references to. The image has been heavily edited and does not reflect the aesthetic of the actual music video.)

Just as so many game devs go with a pixel art style whenever they make something retro, I’d like to see more artists and creative types pursue the kind of polygonal art style that ENA, both the show and the character, portray. I think it's an aesthetic that doesn’t get enough recognition and I’m excited to see what Mr. G. has in store for us in the future!

Do what I did and buy some JoelG merch:iu_289975_7280812.jpg

Hello, and welcome to Day 3 of what I’m dubbing Bomb’s Freaky Sweet Artist Appreciation Week, where I take an artist and one of their OC’s and make a cool little news posts here on Newgrounds, giving them a little showcase. This is 3 of 7 posts I'm planning to make for this week, with a final piece being posted on Pico Day.

Today's artist is @Ennuikal!

Ennui is one of the most recent artists I’ve started following, and the art he makes has a distinct “doodle” quality to it that I just find so appealing. It’s cartoony expressiveness, and simplistically designed characters just make his stuff so fun to look at:iu_288890_7280812.webp

And please know, me calling his characters “simplistic” is not a dig or a diss. Simplistic doesn’t mean low-effort or vapid in this case, if anything Ennui’s OCs show you just how much you can communicate about a character with a very low level of detail. In fact, Ennui, and artists like him, inspire me to be more streamlined in my own character design. You can see for yourself in this post Ennui made, that his characters are wonderfully varied and stand out from one another:iu_288891_7280812.webp

I really admire these two cat girls he did:iu_288892_7280812.webp

I also really admire Ennui’s paneling and how he’ll color backgrounds and whole figures specific colors to reflect what they’re feeling as well as the overall mood in the scene:iu_288893_7280812.webp

On top of making cool character and comics, Ennui ALSO animates! Here’s one of his most recent animations: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/785029

Ennui is ALSO ALSO working on a visual novel project at the moment:

iu_288895_7280812.jpg

It seems like there's nothing this guy can't do :0.

To wrap it all up, the OC I decided to draw for this post was Ennui's Trudy:iu_288894_7280812.webp

Despite her near featureless face, Trudy's buns, side hair, and three-pronged eyelashes give more than enough detail to make her iconic. In a way, her buns give her a kind of Mickey Mouse silhouette and make her easily translatable into any art style. I look forward to more stuff with her!

Keep an eye for the next post tomorrow!

Hello, and welcome to Day 2 of what I’m dubbing Bomb’s Freaky Sweet Artist Appreciation Week, where I take an artist and one of their OC’s and make a cool little news posts here on Newgrounds, giving them a little showcase. This is 2 of 7 posts I'm planning to make for this week, with the final piece being posted on Pico Day.

Today’s artist is @AetherionArt!

If there’s any way to describe Aeth’s stuff it would be with words like “technical,” “precise,” and “supah kleen.” Thin lineart combined with a shading style reminiscent of the type of cel-shading you’d see in an anime, Aeth creates the type of stuff that is just begging to be made into prints, which if you’ve got some spare cash, you can do what I did, and buy a few for yourself here at his Redbubble. Here's the two I got:iu_287988_7280812.webp

Now, one can easily look at Aeth’s stuff and tell right off the bat it was made with talent, but every artist has one particular skill that sets them apart. What is Aeth’s? Well, if I had to give my own opinion it would be a knack for cool character designs. Here’s one that he made quite recently:iu_287989_7280812.webp

Her name is Morta and she’s making my heart do the doki doki:iu_287992_7280812.webp

Aeth’s ability to design an aesthetically pleasing character is in the highest echelons. Here’s a few more he did:iu_287991_7280812.webpiu_287990_7280812.webpiu_287993_7280812.webp

You’ll notice that most of Aeth’s designs are girls, who all adhere to an undeniable brand of cuteness and spunk. Aeth’s crowning jewel in this regard is none other than the girl, Caesie Pumpkin:iu_287994_7280812.webp

Caesie belongs in what I'd call the “Bad Bitch” category of OC’s and so I thought she’d be a perfect fit for the depiction of a biker girl, which is what I decided to go with:iu_288008_7280812.png

With some new boots and a sweet Jack-O-Lantern helmet Caesie is ready to hit the road! Right now she’s telling some pussy-ass loser to kiss her ass and just try and keep up. >:)

At the start of this month, I announced I wanted to do a series of videos and pieces depicting the OC's of some of my favorite Newgrounds artists. These videos/pieces of art would be published during the week leading up to Pico Day. The first installment of the week features @Mogy64 and his OC Krea! Any artist who avidly browses the front page will have seen Mogy's art at least once. So without further ado, let's get to it!

Uh...So, I had typed out a whole news post in regards to Mogy's art, and Krea, and then...

the page crashed and I lost everything.

SO! I'm going to make this quick and shorter to make sure that doesn't happen again. Mogy's art is good because...

  1. Mogy is not afraid to draw backgrounds and he's not afraid to draw them well! His rendering style has a kind of painterly feel to it with what looks like a cross between softly blended markers and watercolors. His backgrounds are nicely layered and the way he draws them always make the world feel lived in and connected.iu_286834_7280812.webp
  2. His OC, Krea is a cute dog girl and the features of her pointy ears, little button nose, big yellow eyes, curtained bangs, and thick eyebrows all lend themselves to be a recognizable character no matter what style she is drawn in.iu_286833_7280812.webp
  3. He draws lots of hot springs with hot babes.iu_286835_7280812.webpiu_286837_7280812.webpiu_286836_7280812.webp

Here is my rendition of Mogy's OC Krea:iu_286838_7280812.webp

(Note: The bills she's holding are just something I made up on the spot and don't reflect how currency is represented in Mogy's own canon.)

Initially, I had planned to make Krea a little happier, but after reading Mogy's comic Double Dealings I decided to go for a more melancholic depiction. Without saying too much, the basic plot of the comic is that a shortage of money keeps Krea from seeing her beloved little sister. The idea behind my piece is something along the lines of Krea counting her money and wondering, "Why does it seems like I never have enough?" You can watch the video of me drawing Krea here.

OKAY. This is day 1 of 7. If you'd like to see the other pieces/videos I have planned for this week, then click that epic little follow button lol. I will try to prepare the next news posts in a word document before I post them here so the page doesn't crash like it did this time.
